January 2011

Taupe
Taupe is one of those colours that I’ve oodles of outside SL, but very little in SL. As with other greeny colours, I’ve mostly just got things that came as part of fat packs. For this week’s 52 weeks of colour challenge I remembered a coat I’d wondered about buying last year. What put me off was that it wasn’t really in my colours and I wasn’t sure the prim parts would fit. However, it turns out the colour is fine and the prims fitted nicely, as there was a small and large version of the coat prims.
I had thought that powder blue might be a good toning colour, but I was still wearing the pink shirt and the pink corsage from the last post when I put the coat on, and so I thought I’d go with pink, though I selected a different shirt from my inventory. I have a couple of these scribble wash jeans from Callie Cline already, but I wasn’t sorry to have to add this pair, as I think they are fun and versatile.
The last minute addition was the “Leaves tiara”. I’m not sure it’s really a tiara, but it is a very pretty face-framing spray of leaves, one of the special items for the new Oh My Stars sim.

Indigo: trade winds

I finally discovered shadows, and although they slow things down a bit, they don’t actually crash me, so I played with them a little bit in this picture. The dress (which I think is indigo…) is called “Tradewinds” so I wanted the idea of a sunny but rather windy beach. I definitely think of indigo as being an inky sort of blue, and I thought of this dress as soon as I saw “indigo”, but I tried to match my hair to the lighter colour swatch that Luna Jubilee gave us (well, sort of). Wikipedia has a range of colours. Actually I also thought of this anime, the title translates to “Bluer than indigo” and the heroine has blue hair, which appears to be both the wikipedia indigo colours.

Sienna
The latest 52 weeks of colour challenge is a rich burnt sienna. I have been looking for an excuse to get one of the Piz jumpers, so when I saw this modelled on the Mimikri blog I decided that was good enough. I ended up with a cosy bohemian look, with the swishy velvet skirt and a luxurious pashmina. With all that fringing I didn’t need much jewellery, so I’m just wearing some earrings from Twinkleberry. The cosy theme enabled me to keep on my expensive fur-lined boots.
I took the pictures on the Patron sim, where there is a furniture/art gallery, an enchanted garden and a sienna-coloured hall (last picture).

Silver

Silver was a lovely choice for this time of year (in the 52 weeks of colour challenge), and I decided to mix practical and glitzy. I haven’t been grabbed by a lot of the recent Maitreya releases, but I love these boots. I realised after I had taken all the pictures that I was so keen to wear them and get posed that I forgot to fiddle with all the lace, strap and buckle change options. Still, keeping them dark means the slush doesn’t stain them. I wanted to feature Mimikri items, and actually ended up more subdued than I thought I would. The leggings are in her discount shop, and a number of other items there are good value. I also wanted to show off some Eolande’s discount items, since I have been a fan of hers ever since I entered SL, and it is good that she is continuing in her new location.
Silver

Star sequin pants in silver and Luz shrug in grey: Mimikri (the shrug also has a bow, but I left it off as I didn’t want to distract from the necklace)
Neoto sweatshirt in grey: Tres Blah
Stone Halo necklace and earrings in lapis/silver: Eolande’s
Shearling boots in Smoke: Maitreya Gold (in the right hand corner of the Maitreya Gold shop, I say that since I wasted ages fighting the lag round the main Maitreya shop trying to find them)
Raga oyster ring *paua* in silver: Zaara (only visible in the last picture)
Trinity hair in blueberry: Truth (with Amacci blue tattoo hairbase)
Skin is Eva tone 1 by Tuli (no longer available in the “new” Eva skins; I’m very depressed about how she seems to have stopped doing really pale skins) and “winter” eyes by Miriel (also no longer available).

The first picture is taken at home with an Adorkable poseball and a reindeer by Corbin Coage. The second one was taken in the Drowsy winter market. This final picture was taken at home and also gives you a good view of the boots.
